Every Mother’s Day reminds us that really this sort of holiday should last all year long. How often do we really recognize the hard work and dedication of really good mothers? One a year in May, we rush to buy flowers for the super mom in our life, but ever other day we seem to give her as much grief as possible in the course of a day.
Super Mom
The typical super mom does twice what the rest of us manage to achieve in a day. Not only does Mom get us up and dressed in the morning, she packs us a lunch, checks over our homework and makes sure we have clean clothes and dishes when we come home. She feeds us, keeps us clean and tries to keep us on the right track. Not only is she totally dedicated to doing all of that for us, she’s also managing to keep up with all of her own life, too.
Why is it we feel free to blame our super mom when our day is going wrong or when she doesn’t read our mind and remember that we were supposed to bring money for a field trip that day. We call and she somehow gets that money to us, but have you ever wondered who your mom can rely on? It’s almost second nature to rely almost completely on your mom to take care of everything you need her to. It’s not usually a question of whether or not mom can handle it, she can and she will.
Looking Out for Super Mom
But who’s looking out for that super mom? Your dad can certainly help out and does, but for all of the times your mom has woken you up and made lunches, who makes hers? Who wakes her up? When you forget your permission slip and she manages to bring it to you at school, who is taking over for her at her office job while she’s running errands on your behalf?
The answer, not surprisingly, is nobody. Nobody really has mom’s back the way she has everyone else’s. Moms are such a constant in our lives it’s very easy to take advantage of her every day by simply expecting her to be there to take care of the details of life for us. Stop and think for a bit how much more you would have to do without your mom there to help or even to do it for you.
Not only would you probably have a lot of bills to pay to live in your current lifestyle, you’d also have a lot more time to spend doing laundry and taking care of tasks like changing the sheets on your bed and being sure you have clean sheets and towels. Suddenly you’d have to come home from school and get started cooking dinner because otherwise you wouldn’t get fed and you’d have to complain to yourself about all of your problems because Mom wouldn’t be there to listen. It’s a horrifying thought isn’t it. Be sure to appreciate your super mom today.
